Summary: Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work in the operation of light equipment related to street lighting, sign, and signal maintenance with routing maintenance responsibilities for assigned equipment.

Knowledge of the principles of operation and servicing of trucks and related automotive equipment. Knowledge of the traffic laws, ordinances, and regulations applying to equipment operation. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions in the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to learn the geography of the city and assigned routes. Ability to perform heavy physical work, often under adverse weather conditions. Skill in the operation of trucks and other automotive equipment. Working knowledge or ability to learn the operation of traffic signals and signal controllers. Working knowledge or ability to learn MUTCD and National Electric Code.
High school graduate or equivalent.
One year of experience demonstrating technical and mechanical abilities.
Valid North Dakota commercial drivers license; insurable under the Citys motor vehicle insurance policy. Must have or be able to obtain a Traffic Signal Technician Certification from IMSA or ATSSA.
Position is safety sensitive and requires pre-employment drug and alcohol testing and is subject to controlled substance requirements at all times when on duty.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk and hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; sit; and climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

The employee occasionally works in extreme cold and heat; is subject to vibration; is exposed to fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is loud.
